7 Irresistible Real Food Snacks

I absolutely love a good snack and I eat one every day!  I enjoy eating healthy snacks that taste amazing and satisfy me when I get hungry between meals. If you’re a busy person, you’re probably looking for easy snacks which you can eat at home, school, or work that will keep your energy level high throughout the day.


With all the unhealthy commercial snacks in the supermarkets tempting you with their slick packaging and cheap prices, I’ve decided to start sharing my favorite homemade, real food snacks from bloggers that I really respect and admire. These 7 irresistible real food snacks recipes are truly mouth-watering and health-promoting at the same time!


I will also be including my own healing foods snacks in these posts. I will be featuring new snacks regularly on my blog along with hosting a “Super Snack Saturday” party on my Facebook page starting on July 13th. Jenny McGruther is the creator of Nourished Kitchen, one of the most celebrated traditional real food blogs on the internet! Jenny and her husband created and manage a progressive farmers market in the heart of Colorado ski country that nourishes their community with healthy, real foods. Winnie posts delectable, healthy, seasonal recipes on the blog, as well as documenting her entertaining adventures in organic gardening, backyard chickens, and beekeeping.

Winnie’s new book “One Simple Change” is coming out soon and I can’t wait to get it! Since I’m a big avocado fan, I had to include Winnie’s drool-worthy guacamole with pistachios in my real food snack post. This creamy, crunchy, slightly spicy guacamole will make you a lover of avocado in no time!

All of the mouth-watering recipes she creates on her site are the way I like to eat and cook. The recipes are made with fresh, flavorful, top quality ingredients and minimal preparation that lets the natural flavors of the food shine. Sylvie’s chocolate dipped nut bites are totally spectacular and the perfect portable snack!

Kristen is one of the nicest people that I have met online, and she is always willing to give you a helping hand or some sage advice. You have to try her delicious tomato mango salsa because it is full of bright flavors that will have you going back for seconds!

  2. Hi Shelley. Your blog is a feast for the eyes, as well as for the tongue! I think the nut bites and hummus look especially good. I admit that I’m bad about grabbing not-so-great snacks, but I do try to keep my homemade trail mix around. I go to a Mennonite store once a year and buy bags of raw almonds, raw pecans, brown and golden raising, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and papaya. I can pack it in snack bags and take it with me to lessen the temptations. I am slightly hypoglycemic, so I always have a can of Glucerna Snack Shake with me, as well.

    Our garden has only just now begun to produce anything edible. Our growing season is short, but our summer days are very long. Even now, we don’t need our bright lights on our car at 10pm, and it never gets completely dark at night in the northern night sky. We look forward to our short season when we can take veggies straight from the garden!

    Wow, when I clicked on this post to read it, I thought you would give a list of healthy snacks like berries, nuts etc. I was surprised by the extensive presentation of these wonderfully delicious looking healthy snacks! I’m really curious about the Kale chips…also the almond power bars look scrumptious. I’m not a chocolate fan, but I love almonds! My favorite has to be the Tomato Mango Salad.
