I put together this creamy smoothie recipe with some wonderful skin loving, anti-aging, healing foods that work together to provide great taste and important nutrients that your body requires on a daily basis. Whole foods that have the added bonus of helping slow down the aging process are some of my favorite foods to eat on a weekly basis.

Pineapple is one of those tropical fruits that I crave. It’s sweet flavor and juicy texture is so great to enjoy on its own or in variety of different recipes. Pineapple is a wonderful fruit to eat for radiant, healthy skin due to the high amount of nutrition it contains. Pineapple is high in vitamin C and manganese which are two important nutrients that protect your skin against aging. Pineapple has a special enzyme called bromelain which helps promote healthy digestion by breaking down protein. Bromelain is also a potent anti-inflammatory along with an aid for better circulation.
Bananas are well known for their high potassium content but they are also an excellent source of vitamins C, A, and B6 which are important vitamins for keeping your skin youthful and well moisturized. Freezing the banana before using in the smoothie helps to make the smoothie cold and creamy.
Turmeric is one of my top choices for fighting inflammation and helping cleanse the blood. Turmeric’s potent health benefits are due to the presence of the antioxidant curcumin which has been widely studied and praised for its beneficial properties. Clean blood and reduction of inflammation = beautiful, glowing skin.
Brazil nuts are one of the best sources for selenium an important mineral for vibrant health. Selenium is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant which helps protect your body from premature aging that leads to degenerative diseases.

Anti-Aging Pineapple Banana Green Smoothie
Raw Vegan, Paleo, Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free, Dairy-Free
3 cups vanilla Brazil nut milk (recipe follows)
2 cups frozen pineapple chunks (cut into chunks and freeze)
1 frozen banana (cut into slices and freeze)
½ small avocado (pitted and skin removed)
2 cups organic romaine lettuce
½ teaspoon organic turmeric powder
1 tablespoon organic lucuma powder
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 tablespoon lime juice
1. Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Enjoy immediately!
Vanilla Brazil Nut Milk
Raw Vegan, Paleo, Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free, Dairy-Free
Makes around 4½ cups
3 cups filtered or spring water
1¼ cups raw Brazil nuts—soaked 1 hour, rinsed and drained
Seeds from 1 vanilla bean or 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1. In a high speed blender blend all ingredients with one of the sweeteners listed in the recipe until creamy and smooth. Strain with a nut bag or fine mesh strainer.
2. Drink milk as is or use to blend into smoothies. Milk will last for 3-5 days covered in the refrigerator.
