Chia seeds, hemp, and raw chocolate are three superfoods I eat frequently to help provide my body with energy, strength, and immunity. I combined them together to create this yummy, dairy-free, nut-free, creamy chocolate ice cream that is pure superfood goodness!
Since my favorite desserts have a combination of sweet, creamy, chewy, and crunchy I created a superfood crumble topping with Foods Alive Maple Cinnamon Flax Crackers, coconut flakes, chia seeds, and dark raisins to take this chocolate ice cream to the next level! One of my other favorite superfoods is chocolate. I have been fascinated with chocolate since I was a young girl. It’s deep rich irresistible flavor had me at hello from day one! When I started on my holistic health journey I discovered the wonderful health benefits of raw cacao aka raw chocolate.
Raw cacao aka raw chocolate is a fantastic healthy chocolate to eat. Raw cacao powder is created by cold pressing raw cacao beans into a cake which separates the cacao butter or oil from the protein and fiber. The remaining dry material is ground and milled into pure, unsweetened raw cacao powder or raw chocolate.
Raw cacao is high in antioxidants, phytochemicals, flavanols, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and soluble fiber. It is especially high in chromium, iron, and magnesium. Once you gather all your ingredients together this ice cream comes together easily. You just add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth, chill, freeze, and eat.

Chocolate Hemp Chia Ice Cream with Flax Chia Crumble
Raw Vegan, Dairy-free, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free
Makes around 2 pints
2 medium Bananas—organic or fair trade
2 cups spring or filtered water
¼ cup cup raw cacao powder
¼ cup Hemp Seed Butter
2 tablespoons Chia Seeds
⅓ cup raw coconut nectar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon Himalayan sea salt
⅛ teaspoon organic stevia powder
1 tablespoon hemp protein powder—optional but adds additional protein
To make ice cream, place all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Pour ice cream into a covered container and chill overnight for best results. After ice cream is chilled, place in a chilled bowl of a ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions. If you don’t own an ice cream maker just place in freezer and chill until hard. Make crumble while ice cream is freezing. Serve ice cream topped with crumble.
Flax Chia Crumble
⅓ cup large unsweetened coconut flakes
⅓ cup dark raisins
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
In bowl of a food processor fitted with S blade, pulse together flax crackers, chia seeds, coconut, and cinnamon until mixture resembles large crumbs. Stir in raisins by hand and use crumble to top ice cream, yogurt, or fresh fruit.
